Suzanne Simpson murder case: Husband’s defense looks for holes in evidence trove

Texas Realtor Suzanne Simpson disappeared over four months ago, and her husband, Brad Simpson, who is accused of her murder, appeared in court this week as his defense team scrutinizes the evidence.

During a hearing in San Antonio, prosecutors revealed they were expecting a substantial amount of evidence from the Texas Rangers, while the defense indicated they still had evidence to review before proceeding with a motion to challenge the indictment. The search for Suzanne’s remains is ongoing, with authorities expressing their commitment to finding her.

Suzanne, 51, went missing on October 6 after a reported altercation with her husband outside their home in Olmos Park. Brad Simpson, 54, is accused of causing her death intentionally and knowingly. He faces charges of murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a prohibited weapon. He is currently held in Bexar County Jail on a $3 million bond.

In cases where a body is not found, prosecutors may still pursue charges based on circumstantial evidence. Criminal defense attorney Sam Bassett suggested that plea negotiations could lead to a confession and the discovery of Suzanne’s remains.

While the death penalty is unlikely in this case, given the current charges, a murder conviction could result in a life sentence for Brad Simpson. Witnesses reported seeing him assault his wife on the night of her disappearance, and his behavior in the following days raised suspicions. Suzanne’s DNA was found on a saw that Simpson allegedly tried to conceal.

Family and friends gathered for a memorial to honor Suzanne’s life, underscoring the impact of her disappearance on the community. Brad Simpson’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 12, with his attorney yet to comment on the case. The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office declined to provide further details on the ongoing investigation.
