Venus Williams to Compete in Women’s Doubles at US Open After Wildcard Entry

Venus Williams will participate on Tuesday in women’s doubles at the US Open after receiving a wildcard entry with 2021 Singles Second Leylah Fernandez on Tuesday.
The 45-year-old Williams appears on her first Grand Slam tournament in two years after making a comeback to Pro Tennis last month after 16 months away from the Tour.
She participated in mixed Doubles last week, then in Singles on Monday evening also through Wildcard invitations from the US Tennis Association.
Williams left every time in the first round, but was pleased to be back on the field after dealing with injuries and illness. She was operated on last year for uterine libres and spoke on Monday after her three-set exit in Singles against 11th placed Karolina Muchova about relieved to be pain-free.
“Oh, what have I proven myself?” Said Williams and repeated part of a reporter at her press conference after the postmatch. “I think for me, coming back to the field, giving myself a chance to play healthier. If you play unhealthy, it’s in your mind. It’s not just how you feel. You get stuck in your mind. So it’s nice to be freer.”
She was the oldest person who has played singles at the US Open since 1981, and the spectators loved every moment, greeted her up with camera telephones and shouted: “Let’s go, Venus!” Want to herald during the competition and her of the Arthur Ashe Stadium Court with a standing ovation.
