Maduro claims US seeks ‘regime change through military threat’

The United States and Venezuela are at odds over a naval buildup in the Caribbean, with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro accusing the US of seeking regime change in his country. The military deployment, authorized by President Trump to disrupt drug cartel activity, has been viewed by Maduro as an intervention in Venezuela’s affairs.

Maduro stated that Venezuela is facing the biggest threat in the last 100 years, emphasizing that the country is prepared to resist any external threats. The Trump administration has accused Maduro of engaging in drug trafficking, offering a $50 million reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

The Pentagon has justified the military deployment as a response to drug cartels that have caused violence and instability in the region. Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell emphasized the need for a coordinated effort with regional partners to eliminate the threat posed by these cartels.

While Maduro sees the naval buildup as a threat to his government, the US views it as a necessary step to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety and security of its people. The situation between the two countries remains tense, with both sides standing firm in their positions.
