Tennessee lawmaker demands federal probe into Nashville mayor’s ICE policies

A Republican lawmaker from Tennessee is calling for a federal investigation into Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s handling of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., is not backing down on his demands for transparency and accountability.
In a post on X, Ogles announced that he is formally requesting all documents and communications from O’Connell’s office regarding the protection of illegal immigrants. Specifically, he is seeking information related to the amendment of Executive Order 30, which he described as an outrageous directive requiring Nashville employees and first responders to report all communication with federal immigration authorities directly to the mayor.
Ogles is also seeking any internal discussions or documents related to ICE enforcement actions in Nashville or Davidson County, as well as all correspondence involving Metro employees and affiliated nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) concerning the arrests or detention of criminal illegal aliens within the city or county.
In a video accompanying his announcement, Ogles expressed his unwavering support for ICE and emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law. He highlighted the serious nature of the individuals that the mayor is allegedly protecting, including murderers, rapists, drug traffickers, and sexual predators.
Ogles emphasized that he stands with law enforcement and will not tolerate any actions that could potentially aid and abet illegal immigration. He called for an investigation into Mayor O’Connell’s conduct and the possible misuse of federal funds in criminal activities.
This move by Ogles comes after he sent a letter urging for an investigation into O’Connell, who has been accused by the Trump administration of supporting pro-illegal policies. O’Connell’s office has not responded to requests for comment on the matter.
Following recent ICE arrests in Nashville, O’Connell signed an executive order aimed at tracking interactions with federal immigration authorities. He expressed concerns about the impact of federal actions on the safety of the community and emphasized that the police department does not have federal immigration authority.
Despite O’Connell’s criticisms of the ICE raids, DHS highlighted the importance of removing criminal illegal aliens from American streets. The agency pointed out that ICE officers are facing a significant increase in assaults and emphasized that President Trump campaigned on immigration enforcement, which the American people support.
As the investigation into Mayor O’Connell’s handling of ICE operations unfolds, it is clear that the issue of illegal immigration remains a contentious and polarizing topic. Ogles’ calls for transparency and accountability underscore the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of communities across the country.
