House staffer victim of armed carjacking in popular Washington neighborhood

A senior staffer working for California Rep. Sara Jacobs’ office became the target of an armed carjacking in a bustling Washington, D.C. neighborhood on Friday afternoon. The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed two arrests in connection with the incident that took place in a Harris Teeter parking lot in the Navy Yard area of Washington.

The victim, a senior staffer, reported the theft of personal belongings including a government-issued iPhone, MacBook, ID, and Capitol parking pass. Although Jacobs’ office did not provide a statement, they did confirm that the stolen devices were promptly wiped clean of any sensitive information.

According to the police report obtained by Fox News Digital, the incident occurred around 12:08 p.m. on Friday when the suspects approached the victim as they were exiting their vehicle. The suspects demanded the victim’s car keys, and when the victim refused, one of the suspects brandished a handgun and forcibly took the keys before fleeing the scene in the victim’s car.

Law enforcement officers were able to recover the victim’s car and a firearm on Saturday, leading to the arrest of two suspects. A 15-year-old juvenile male from Washington was charged with armed carjacking, while a 14-year-old juvenile male from Maryland faced charges of carrying a pistol without a license and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

As of Sunday, police are still on the lookout for two additional suspects whose images were captured on surveillance cameras during the incident. The Navy Yard neighborhood, situated south of the U.S. Capitol and home to the Washington Nationals baseball stadium, has undergone significant development over the past decade, attracting congressional staffers and young professionals. However, it has also faced criticism for its crime rates.
