Man arrested in connection with 2 Colchester County homicides

RCMP have successfully located and arrested Ronald Albert Canuel in New Brunswick, putting an end to a Canada-wide manhunt for the suspect. Canuel was wanted in connection with the homicides of two men in Upper Onslow and Truro, Nova Scotia, last month.

The 35-year-old Canuel, originally from Bathurst, N.B., was apprehended safely by authorities. The RCMP announced the arrest in a news release, with plans to provide more information as it becomes available.

The search for Canuel began following the deaths of two individuals in Colchester County, Nova Scotia, in December. On December 21, emergency services were called to a residence on Vincent Drive in Upper Onslow, near Truro, where they found a 25-year-old man from Pictou Landing First Nation deceased. The following day, a 27-year-old man from Truro was also found dead at a residence on Lavinia Drive in Truro.

Both victims had previously been hospitalized with severe stab wounds, leading authorities to investigate the deaths as homicides. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service confirmed the cause of death for both individuals.

The swift apprehension of Canuel brings relief to the communities affected by these tragic events. The RCMP’s diligent efforts in tracking down the suspect demonstrate their commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.

As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge regarding the circumstances surrounding the homicides and Canuel’s apprehension. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick has proven instrumental in bringing closure to this case.
