Rising star takes victory lap after Trump DOJ rolls back Biden anti-police push

Arizona GOP Congressman Abe Hamadeh celebrated a significant victory on Wednesday as the Trump Justice Department announced the dismissal of several lawsuits filed by the Biden administration against police departments, including Phoenix. Hamadeh expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Promise made. Promise kept,” in an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital. His tireless efforts to end the weaponization of the DOJ against police departments, particularly in response to the 2020 George Floyd riots, finally came to fruition with the DOJ’s announcement.
The DOJ revealed its decision to scale back “pattern and practice” probes that had become commonplace under former Attorney General Merrick Garland. Critics had denounced these investigations as politically motivated and obstructive to police officers’ duties. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon declared, “Today, we are ending the Biden Civil Rights Division’s failed experiment of handcuffing local leaders and police departments with factually unjustified consent decrees.”
Hamadeh had made a promise to law enforcement officers prior to taking office to combat the misuse of the judicial system and collaborate with the Trump administration to reverse the harmful policies implemented by the Biden administration. The Phoenix Police Department was subjected to an oversight investigation in 2024, where the Biden DOJ accused the department of civil rights violations, discrimination against minorities, and excessive use of force. However, this probe, along with investigations in several other jurisdictions, was dismissed by the Justice Department.
The Phoenix Police Sergeants and Lieutenants Association (PPSLA) and the Arizona Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) commended Hamadeh’s relentless advocacy on this issue. PPSLA President Ben Leuschner expressed gratitude towards Hamadeh for fulfilling his promise and ensuring justice for both the residents and police officers of Phoenix. Similarly, FOP President Paul Sheldon thanked Hamadeh for his unwavering support and pledged to work together in ensuring community safety.
Hamadeh had actively campaigned against the Biden DOJ’s intrusive oversight practices and had even met with FBI Director Kash Patel to discuss the targeted attacks on law enforcement by the Biden administration. He emphasized the unwavering dedication of local law enforcement officers and criticized the inaccurate and biased report produced by the DOJ following their investigations.
In conclusion, Hamadeh’s efforts to defend police departments from unjust scrutiny and interference have been successful, with the DOJ’s decision to dismiss the lawsuits against several police departments, including Phoenix. The support and appreciation from law enforcement organizations highlight the positive impact of Hamadeh’s advocacy in safeguarding community safety and upholding the integrity of police departments.
