Frost ice Sceptres in high-scoring Game 3, moving a win away from PWHL final

The Minnesota Frost took a commanding 2-1 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series against the Toronto Sceptres with a thrilling 7-5 victory on Sunday night. Brooke McQuigge and Michela Cava led the way for the Frost, each scoring two goals in the high-scoring affair.

After tying the series with a 5-3 win in Game 2, the Frost are now one win away from advancing to the PWHL championship. They will have the opportunity to clinch the series in Game 4 on Wednesday.

In addition to McQuigge and Cava’s contributions, Liz Schepers, Lee Stecklein, and Sophie Jaques also found the back of the net for Minnesota. Taylor Heise chipped in with three assists to help fuel the Frost’s offense.

Toronto fought hard to stay in the game, with Anna Kjellbin scoring her first PWHL goal to cut the deficit to 5-4 in the third period. However, Cava responded with a clutch backhand goal and a power-play tally to extend Minnesota’s lead to 7-4.

Goalie Maddie Rooney stood tall in net for the Frost, making 18 saves to secure her second consecutive win. Daryl Watts, Maggie Connors, Kali Flanagan, and Blayre Turnbull scored for the Sceptres, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Minnesota’s offensive outburst.

Toronto goalie Kristen Campbell made 17 saves in a losing effort as the Sceptres now face a must-win situation in Game 4.

With the series hanging in the balance, both teams will be looking to bring their A-game as they battle it out for a spot in the PWHL championship. Fans can expect an intense and competitive matchup as the Frost aim to close out the series, while the Sceptres fight to stay alive. Stay tuned for more exciting hockey action as the semifinal series reaches its conclusion.
