Taylor brand oysters distributed in 3 provinces recalled over possible norovirus contamination

Canadian Food Inspection Agency Recalls Oysters Due to Norovirus Contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for certain oysters distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario due to possible norovirus contamination. The affected oysters are under the Taylor Shellfish Canada brand and include Fanny Bay, Sunseeker, and Cloudy Bay varieties.

According to the agency, most of the affected oysters were harvested and processed in early December, with some potentially harvested as early as Nov. 27. Consumers who have purchased these oysters are advised to either discard them or return them to the point of sale. Anyone experiencing symptoms of norovirus should seek medical care immediately.

Norovirus symptoms can appear as quickly as 12 hours after exposure and include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps. While most people recover from the virus within a few days, severe cases may require hospitalization and intravenous injections.

It is crucial for consumers to be aware of the potential risks associated with consuming contaminated oysters and to take appropriate precautions. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is working diligently to address this issue and ensure the safety of consumers.
