Teenager Morales Williams sets Canadian 400m record at SEC track championships

Canadian sprinter Christopher Morales Williams continues to make his mark on the track.

Morales Williams won the 400-metre event at the SEC outdoor tack and field championships in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday.

The native of Vaughan, Ont., raced to a Canadian record and world lead time of 44.05 seconds, eclipsing the previous mark of 44.44 set in 2005 held by Tyler Christopher.

Morales Williams’s time on Saturday would have won silver at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

Back in February, The 19-year-old Georgia sophomore ran an all-time mark of 44.49 seconds at the NCAA SEC indoor championships, but World Athletics was unable to ratify the Morales Williams’ time due to a starting block issue.

Morales Williams already owned the Canadian indoor 400 record with a time of 45.39 on Feb. 9 at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational.
