US Election 2024

Texas Attorney General Paxton endorses candidate vying to succeed him in role

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is throwing his support behind Aaron Reitz for attorney general, Fox News Digital has learned. Reitz, who previously served as Texas deputy attorney general for legal strategy under Paxton, is now endorsed by the incumbent Republican senator.

Paxton described Reitz as the “only candidate who is fully vetted, battle-tested, proven, and ready to be Attorney General,” emphasizing his loyalty, fearlessness, trustworthiness, and unwavering commitment to the Rule of Law. Paxton asserted that Reitz “absolutely must be Texas’s next top lawyer” and has given him his complete and total endorsement to succeed him in the role.

Reitz, who briefly served as assistant attorney general for the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Legal Policy earlier this year, received high praise from then-President-elect Donald Trump, who called him “a true MAGA attorney” and “a warrior for our Constitution.”

While both Reitz and another candidate, U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, have served as chief of staff to Sen. Ted Cruz, the senator is backing Roy for the job. Cruz expressed his pride in endorsing Roy, citing their long-standing friendship and shared commitment to conservative values.

The race for Texas Attorney General also includes Republican Texas state Sens. Mayes Middleton and Joan Huffman, as well as Democratic state Sen. Nathan Johnson and former Galveston Mayor Joe Jaworski.

Roy, the policy chair of the House Freedom Caucus, recently announced his candidacy for attorney general, highlighting his desire to fight for Texas from within the state rather than remaining in the U.S. House of Representatives. He emphasized the need to protect Texas from various threats, including open-border policies and radical leftists.

Reitz, on the other hand, made it clear that he is not backing down from the contest despite the competition, sharing a clip from “The Wolf of Wall Street” to emphasize his determination to stay in the race.

In response to the endorsement from Paxton, Reitz expressed his honor and commitment to carrying on Paxton’s legacy of fighting for Law, Order, and Liberty in Texas. He vowed to energetically continue Paxton’s work and defend the state from the radical left.

The ongoing race for Texas Attorney General is heating up as candidates vie for the opportunity to lead the state’s legal efforts. With endorsements from key political figures and a range of candidates with diverse backgrounds, the outcome of the race remains uncertain. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
