Texas Dem launches first Trump impeachment articles over Gaza
Democratic Rep. Al Green of Houston, Texas, who famously made three attempts to impeach President Donald Trump during his first term, has initiated his first impeachment effort in 2025. Green took to the House floor on Wednesday to address the issue of ethnic cleansing in Gaza, which he strongly condemned as emanating from the President of the United States, calling it a serious matter that should not be taken lightly. He criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for allowing such actions to take place, considering the history of his people.
In his formal impeachment articles, Green cited “dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done” as the basis for his call to impeach President Trump. He emphasized that the impeachment movement should be a grassroots effort, and he expressed his determination to lay the foundation for impeachment once again, even if he has to stand alone on the issue.
President Trump’s recent announcement regarding the U.S. intervention in Gaza, where Palestinians would be relocated during the repair process, sparked further outrage from Green. He reiterated his commitment to pursuing impeachment, stating that he had previously laid the groundwork for the process and would do so again.
While some Democrats showed little enthusiasm for Green’s impeachment bid, he remained resolute in his stance. Green’s past impeachment attempts were distinct from those led by other Democrats, such as Adam Schiff, which focused on different issues like the 2019 phone call with the Ukrainian President and the 2021 Capitol riot.
During a previous House Judiciary Committee hearing, Green’s comments about the potential re-election of President Trump if he was not impeached were highlighted by Republican members. Despite criticism from some quarters, Green remained steadfast in his pursuit of impeachment.
It is worth noting that similar calls for impeachment have been made in the past, including during the Obama administration, when Rep. Walter Jones Jr. repeatedly called for President Barack Obama’s impeachment over various issues.
As Green prepares to file the articles of impeachment, it is clear that he remains committed to holding President Trump accountable for his actions. The process may face challenges, but Green’s determination to seek justice and uphold the principles of democracy is unwavering.
