Texas Lyft driver says rider slashed his throat, attempted to choke him, stole his car

A shocking incident occurred in Texas when a Lyft driver was viciously attacked by a passenger who slashed his throat, attempted to choke him, and stole his car. The victim, Dilaver Berk, 25, has been released from the hospital but remains bedridden, grateful to be alive after the harrowing ordeal.

According to Frisco Police, Berk picked up the suspect, 19-year-old Antwain Williams, for a ride on Monday evening. When they arrived at Williams’ destination at Legends at Legacy Apartments on 3700 Legacy Drive, the suspect launched a brutal attack on Berk from behind using a knife and a cable or wire in an attempt to strangle him.

Berk sustained serious injuries, with stitches across his neck and deep gashes on his hands. His friend, Dustin Tovi, recounted the terrifying incident, stating that Williams repeatedly slashed Berk’s throat and stabbed him multiple times as he bravely tried to defend himself.

After the attack, Williams stole Berk’s Toyota Camry and left him in the apartment building’s parking lot. A nearby woman came to Berk’s aid and called 911, prompting a police response. The stolen vehicle was later located by a patrol officer near Highway 423 and Rockhill. Williams attempted to evade arrest but crashed the car and was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

Williams, who also had an outstanding warrant for allegedly encouraging a child to perform a sex act, now faces charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and evading arrest. He is currently in custody at the Denton County Jail.

Berk, who moved to Texas from Turkey last year and supports his family back home, is described as a hardworking individual who does not deserve such a horrific attack. The community has rallied around him, offering support and sympathy as he recovers from his traumatic experience.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by ride-share drivers and the importance of safety measures for both passengers and drivers. As Berk continues his recovery, the hope is that justice will be served, and he can find peace and healing in the aftermath of this senseless act of violence.
