Texas suspect arrested after allegedly shooting man over iPhone 15 sale
A tragic incident unfolded in Texas recently, as a 66-year-old man lost his life while attempting to sell a cellphone on Facebook Marketplace. According to the Dallas Police Department, Ahmad Alkhalaf was fatally shot at an Oak Cliff gas station on November 8. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Amaya Medrano, has been charged with capital murder in connection with the case.
The Dallas Police Department responded to the shooting at the 300 block of South Marsalis Avenue on November 8. Alkhalaf was found next to his pickup truck, and despite efforts by Dallas Fire-Rescue to transport him to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Alkhalaf had arranged to meet a potential buyer for an iPhone 15 through Facebook Marketplace. Surveillance footage captured the suspect engaging in a brief conversation with Alkhalaf before fatally shooting him and fleeing the scene. The suspect, later identified as Medrano, was apprehended by the police after they tracked down the stolen phone, which was listed on the same Facebook account that Alkhalaf had interacted with.
Court records revealed that Medrano had previously pleaded guilty to stabbing someone in 2023 and was serving a five-year probation sentence at the time of her arrest. She is currently held at the Dallas County Jail on a $1 million bond.
