The books Canadians bought this week
Popular
The two best-selling non-fiction titles sold in Canada last week are essentially coffee table books, and I don’t recall that happening in recent years.
The first is “Beyond the Story: BTS’s 10-Year Record.” It’s a commemorative book celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first album by BTS, the wildly popular seven-member Korean boy group. BTS does not stand for Beyond the Story but Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates as Bulletproof Boy Scouts. Author Myeongseok Kang is a chronicler of Korean pop culture; Anton Hur provided the English translation. (Thank goodness for Wikipedia and Amazon, my only sources for the foregoing information.)
Next up is “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: The Art of the Movie,” a tie-in to Sony’s 2018 Oscar-winning animated sequel “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” The film is currently playing in local theaters and streaming for home audiences.
The big release this week in Canadian fiction is ‘The Librarianist’, a new novel by Patrick deWitt, which is getting rave reviews everywhere. It comes in at number 6. (The book is on the Canadian list because DeWitt was born on Vancouver Island but grew up mostly in California and now lives in Oregon. He is a US citizen.)
