Theodore and Charlotte have emerged as the most popular baby names in Nova Scotia for the year 2024, as per the latest data released by the provincial government. In a shift from the previous year, where Henry and Olivia took the top spots, Theodore and Charlotte have taken the lead with 41 and 33 babies being named respectively.
For girls, the top names in 2024 include Charlotte, Amelia, Olivia, Isla, Hazel, Sophie, Ivy, Sophia, Sadie, and Ava. On the boys’ side, Theodore is followed by William, Jack, Noah, Oliver, Benjamin, Levi, Owen, Lucas, and Henry.
Interestingly, if Theodore and Theo were considered as one name, they would have also been the most popular choice in 2023. The province noted that while some new names like Hazel are gaining popularity, old favorites such as Lucas and Owen are making a comeback.
The total number of births in Nova Scotia saw a significant increase in 2024, with 7,154 births compared to 5,922 in 2023. This rise in births indicates a growing trend in the province’s population.
It’s always fascinating to see how baby names evolve and change over time, reflecting current trends and cultural influences. As parents carefully select names for their newborns, it’s clear that both traditional and modern choices continue to hold significance in Nova Scotia.
