Tiger Woods aims to prevent son from beating him in a round

Charlie Woods Gets the Best of Tiger in Friendly Competition

Tiger Woods, who turns 49 at the end of the month, has a special goal in mind when it comes to his golf game – he wants to delay the day when his son beats him over 18 holes. This week, they will be teaming up once again at the PNC Championship, a tournament that holds great significance for both of them.

The buzz around the golfing world was that 15-year-old Charlie had finally managed to defeat his legendary father. However, Woods clarified that it was only for nine holes, and the day when Charlie beats him over a full 18 holes is inevitable. “I’m just prolonging it as long as I possibly can,” Woods stated.

The PNC Championship is not just about winning for Woods and his competitors. It’s a chance for the 20 teams, consisting of major winners or Players Championship victors paired with a family member, to enjoy a fun end-of-year event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando.

Despite facing challenges with his health, Woods made a comeback to play in the PNC Championship after undergoing his sixth back surgery in September. His year saw mixed results, with a notable performance at the Masters where he made the cut for a record 24th consecutive year.

Woods acknowledged the difficulties of recovery and the toll it takes on his body. He underwent the back surgery to address spasms, ensuring he could participate in the PNC Championship alongside his son.

The father-son duo has yet to clinch victory at the PNC Championship since they started playing together in 2020. Despite this, Woods plans to rely on Charlie’s booming drives in the scramble format, showcasing the young golfer’s potential.

Charlie, who recently went through U.S. Open qualifying and U.S. Junior Amateur, is carving his own path in the golfing world under the watchful eye of his father. Woods encourages his son to be himself and forge his own journey amidst the pressures of being in the spotlight at a young age.

The bond between Tiger and Charlie Woods extends beyond the golf course, creating cherished moments for the father-son duo at the PNC Championship each year.
