Tiger Woods moves Genesis Invitational to San Diego after wildfires damage LA course

Tiger Woods’ annual golfing event, The Genesis Invitational, has been relocated from Los Angeles to San Diego following the destructive wildfires that damaged the original course. The PGA made the announcement on Friday, revealing that the event will now take place at Torrey Pines Golf Course in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, which is currently hosting the Farmers Insurance Open.

In a statement, Woods expressed his gratitude to the City of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational. He emphasized that while Riviera remains the traditional home of the event, they are looking forward to playing on another championship-caliber golf course this year and using the tournament as a platform to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan also extended his thanks to Woods, TGR Live, and Genesis for their leadership in the relocation efforts. He praised Farmers Insurance, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, and the City of San Diego for extending the invitation to move the event to Torrey Pines. Monahan highlighted the resilience of Los Angeles and the importance of continuing to support the ongoing recovery efforts in the region.

Although the Riviera Country Club, the original venue for the Genesis Invitational, was not destroyed by the fires, it is currently facing power and water issues. Out of respect for the fire victims, the tournament is being moved to Torrey Pines. The Genesis Invitational is expected to return to The Riviera Country Club in 2026.

As the event prepares to take place at Torrey Pines, the focus will be on highlighting the resilience of Los Angeles and the ongoing recovery efforts in the region. The Genesis Invitational serves as a reminder of the strength and unity of the community in the face of adversity.

The new location for the Genesis Invitational underscores the spirit of solidarity and support that defines the world of golf. With the tournament set to showcase top-tier competition on a new course, it promises to be a memorable event that honors both the sport and the communities affected by the wildfires.
