Timothee Chalamet told he didn’t have ‘right body’ for some roles

Timothée Chalamet Opens Up About Body Image Pressure in Hollywood

In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Timothée Chalamet shared a personal story that sheds light on the body image expectations placed on actors in Hollywood. The “Dune” star revealed that early in his career, he faced criticism for not having the “right body” for roles in popular franchises like “The Maze Runner” and “Divergent.”

Chalamet recalled receiving feedback from an agent who suggested he needed to put on weight in order to fit the mold of the typical Hollywood leading man. Despite this pressure, the actor stayed true to himself and pursued projects that allowed him to showcase his talent without conforming to societal standards of physical appearance.

The actor’s upcoming role as legendary singer Bob Dylan in the biopic “A Complete Unknown” holds special significance for Chalamet. Drawing parallels between his own journey in the industry and Dylan’s struggles to carve out his own path in music, Chalamet expressed his admiration for the iconic musician.

“I am now deep in the church of Bob,” Chalamet shared. “And I feel like I get this opportunity to kind of be a bridge to this music.”

Chalamet credited his early work in independent films like “Call Me by Your Name,” “Beautiful Boy,” and “Little Women” for helping him find his artistic voice and confidence. These projects, while smaller in budget, allowed him to explore his craft without compromising his authenticity.

As Chalamet gears up for more mainstream projects like “Wonka” and the “Dune” franchise, he remains grateful for the opportunities that have shaped his career. “A Complete Unknown” is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day, offering audiences a glimpse into Chalamet’s transformative portrayal of Bob Dylan.
