Title IX complaint filed against RIT for rostering trans athlete Sadie Schreiner

The Concerned Women for America (CWA) has taken action against the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for allowing transgender athlete Sadie Schreiner to compete on the women’s track and field team. The CWA has filed a Title IX complaint with the U.S. Department of Education, citing violations of anti-discrimination rules for male and female teams.

CWA CEO and President Penny Nance expressed concerns about RIT’s decision to roster a trans-identifying male on its women’s track team, stating that the NCAA’s Transgender Participation Policy does not comply with Title IX regulations. Nance emphasized that educational institutions cannot rely on the NCAA’s policies to justify violations of women’s civil rights, as Title IX mandates the differentiation of male and female teams based on sex.

In response to the complaint, an RIT spokesperson stated that Schreiner would not be participating in future events, as the program is adhering to the NCAA’s new policy following President Donald Trump’s executive order banning trans athletes from women’s sports. However, it remains unclear whether Schreiner has been removed from the roster or is still practicing with the team, as the athlete’s profile page remains on the team’s website.

Schreiner, who holds multiple school records in women’s track, has faced controversy for competing against female athletes and achieving top rankings in various events. Despite recent wins and accolades, Schreiner’s participation in women’s track has sparked debate over fairness and inclusion in sports.

The NCAA’s policy allows a biological male to practice on a women’s team and receive benefits, raising questions about the impact of transgender athletes on competitive balance and opportunities for female athletes. President Trump’s executive order further underscores the importance of upholding the integrity of women’s sports and preventing unfair advantages for transgender athletes.

The CWA’s Title IX complaint against RIT serves as a reminder of the ongoing discussions and actions needed to uphold the principles of gender equity in sports.
