Six Russian Tourists Die in Submarine Sinking off Egyptian Coast

Tragedy struck off the coast of Hurghada, Egypt, on Thursday when a tourist submarine carrying 45 passengers sank, resulting in the deaths of six Russian tourists and injuries to nine others. The incident occurred near a popular tourist beach in the Red Sea resort.

Authorities have confirmed that all the victims were Russian nationals. The sinking of the tourist submarine, operated by Sindbad Submarines, took place just half a mile from the shore. The submarine had 44 passenger seats, two pilot seats, and a round viewing window for each passenger.

Rescue efforts managed to save 29 individuals, who were promptly taken to hospitals and are reported to be in stable condition. However, the fate of 16 other passengers remains unknown, as they are still missing following the tragic incident.

The cause of the submarine’s sinking is currently under investigation, with authorities working to determine the factors that led to this tragic event. Russian consular officials in Hurghada are providing assistance to the affected individuals and their families.

Previous Maritime Incidents in the Red Sea

In a similar incident back in November, a tourist yacht sank in the Red Sea due to rough waters, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and the rescue of 33 others. This recent submarine sinking has once again highlighted the risks associated with maritime activities in the region.
