Trudeau announces $2.4 billion for AI-related investments
The federal government will commit $2.4 billion to the artificial intelligence sector, aimed at boosting job growth and international competitiveness, Trudeau said in a pre-budget announcement Sunday.

Canada’s artificial intelligence sector is getting billions of dollars in federal money in the upcoming federal budget, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Sunday.
“This announcement is a major investment in our future, in the future of workers, in making sure that every industry, and every generation, has the tools to succeed and prosper in the economy of tomorrow,” Trudeau said in a news release accompanying the announcement.
The majority of the funding, $2 billion, will go toward computing and technological infrastructure for Canadian AI researchers and companies. Another $200 million is being committed to AI technology in other sectors, to be directed through regional development agencies.
Additional investments will be made in helping businesses incorporate AI, while $50 million is meant to help workers whose jobs may be affected by the adoption of AI.
