President Donald Trump recently expressed his disagreement with a federal judge’s ruling that bars the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing the Treasury Department. In an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, Trump stated that he “100 percent” disagrees with the decision. The ruling came after 19 state attorneys general filed a lawsuit, claiming that giving DOGE access to the Treasury’s payment systems violates the law.
The judge’s order, issued by U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer, prohibits DOGE from accessing the Treasury system until at least Feb. 14. The order specifically bars political appointees and government employees from accessing Treasury Department data containing personally identifiable information. Trump, Secretary Scott Bessent, and the U.S. Treasury are named as defendants in the case.
Elon Musk, who is leading the Department of Government Efficiency, along with Vice President JD Vance and other conservatives, have criticized the judge’s order. They argue that judges should not interfere with the executive branch’s legitimate power. Trump emphasized the importance of solving government inefficiencies, fraud, and waste, which DOGE is tasked with addressing through audits of federal agencies.
During the interview, Trump also discussed his long-standing interest in sports and football, as well as his plans for DOGE to uncover wasteful spending in federal agencies. He mentioned the need to address overspending and corruption, pointing out that hundreds of millions of dollars are being misallocated. Trump praised Elon Musk for his role in helping identify areas of government waste.
In addition to discussing DOGE, Trump addressed his recent comments about Canada potentially becoming the 51st state of the U.S. He highlighted the economic benefits of such a move, stating that it would prevent the U.S. from losing $200 billion annually in subsidies to Canada.
Following the interview, Trump is set to attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans, where the Chiefs and Eagles will compete. He is expected to return to the White House after the game. The full interview with Trump will air on Fox News’ “Special Report with Bret Baier” on Monday.
