Trump addresses West Point graduates: in commencement speech

President Donald Trump delivered an inspiring commencement address to the U.S. Military Academy graduates at West Point’s commencement ceremony, congratulating the Class of 2025 and declaring them all winners. The high-energy speech took place at Michie Stadium in New York, with Trump expressing his pride in the accomplishments of the cadets.

As he took the stage, Trump was greeted with enthusiastic chants of “USA, USA” from the audience. This marked his first military commencement address of his second term, where he lauded the academy as the most elite and storied military institution in human history.

During his address, Trump criticized previous foreign policy initiatives and vowed to end critical race theory, DEI initiatives, and men competing in women’s sports. He emphasized a return to merit-based systems and traditional military values, advocating for a focus on peace through strength.

The President reiterated his commitment to building up the military and announced a $1 trillion military buildup that includes new stealth aircraft, tanks, and a state-of-the-art “Golden Dome” missile defense shield, all to be manufactured in America. Trump declared that the dome would be completed by the end of his term in office.

In a display of recognition, Trump called Cadet Chris Verdugo on stage for breaking an international record for an 18-and-a-half-mile march, as well as Cadet Ricky McMahon, a fourth-generation West Point graduate. The President celebrated Army football victories and highlighted the achievements of the cadets throughout his speech.

Offering personal advice to the graduates, Trump encouraged them to pursue their passions, think big, work hard, and never give up. He praised his administration for securing the border and emphasized the importance of perseverance and determination.
