Trump admin pushes back against ‘false reporting’ by mainstream media outlet on children deportations

The White House and Trump administration are pushing back against what they are calling “false reporting” from the Miami Herald, which alleged that the administration is targeting migrant foster children for deportations. In a recent article titled “Trump administration targets Florida foster kids, migrant youth for deportations,” the Miami Herald claimed that the administration’s deportation campaign is now focusing on vulnerable children who were previously considered off-limits.

The Miami Herald reported that since the start of President Trump’s second term, immigration agents have been instructed to target unaccompanied minors, funding for their legal representation is being cut, and Homeland Security agents are conducting welfare checks at homes where unaccompanied children are released. Additionally, the administration is reportedly fast-tracking deportations for minors who are documented victims of abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

However, Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, has refuted these claims, calling the Miami Herald’s story an “absolute embarrassment to journalism.” McLaughlin stated that DHS is conducting welfare checks on these children to ensure their safety and protect them from exploitation. She emphasized that both President Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem take the responsibility of protecting children seriously and are working with law enforcement to reunite the hundreds of thousands of migrant children lost under the Biden administration.

In response to the Miami Herald article, the Department of Homeland Security’s official account highlighted the fact that around 300,000 unaccompanied children were lost under the Biden administration. They stated that Trump and Noem are working to reunite these children, contradicting the Miami Herald’s claims.

Trump border czar Tom Homan also chimed in, accusing the Biden administration of allowing hundreds of thousands of migrant children to be trafficked across the border, some of whom were handed over to pedophiles and forced into labor. Homan emphasized that efforts are being made to rescue these children, despite the lack of coverage from outlets like the Miami Herald.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson condemned the Miami Herald’s reporting as “disgusting and false,” calling for an apology. She highlighted the administration’s efforts to find and protect the children who were handed over to traffickers, pedophiles, and forced laborers under the Biden administration’s policies.

The Miami Herald has not responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital. It is clear that there is a stark division between the White House and the Miami Herald regarding the treatment of migrant foster children and the administration’s deportation policies. The controversy underscores the importance of accurate reporting and the need for transparency in immigration enforcement efforts.
