Trump admin releases shockingly low number of illegal aliens at start of term

President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, held a press conference at the White House on Monday to highlight the administration’s success in releasing a significantly low number of illegal aliens. Homan emphasized that only nine illegal aliens were released, a stark contrast to the hundreds or even thousands released on a single day under the Biden administration. This achievement, especially in comparison to times when there were over 10,000 migrant encounters in places like Eagle Pass, Texas, showcases the administration’s commitment to border security.

“We have the most secure border in the history of this nation, and the numbers prove it. President Trump’s policies are saving lives every day,” Homan declared.

Homan explained the rare circumstances surrounding the nine releases, citing four material witnesses in a criminal investigation, four individuals with extreme medical conditions, and one humanitarian issue. This stands in sharp contrast to the thousands of illegal aliens released on a single day under the previous administration.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, on December 22, 2023, there were 4,832 illegal aliens released, with just under 9,000 migrant encounters on the same day. The port of entry saw 1,400 releases due to the CBP One app, which has now been replaced by the CBP Home app, designed for individuals in the country illegally to self-deport.

The Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration has resulted in a significant decrease in migrant encounters at the border, with just over 7,000 reported in March. This success has been attributed to the administration’s commitment to border security and the dedication of U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

Later on Monday, President Trump is expected to sign executive orders targeting sanctuary cities, which limit federal authorities’ ability to collaborate with state and local law enforcement on immigration matters. In a statement on April 14, Pete Flores, acting commissioner of CBP, highlighted the dedication of the agency’s personnel in securing the borders and protecting American communities. The tireless efforts of CBP agents have resulted in a significant decrease in apprehensions along the southwest border, underscoring the administration’s commitment to border security.
