Trump admin secures release of USAF veteran Joseph St. Clair

The family of Joseph St. Clair, a U.S. Air Force veteran who was wrongfully detained in Venezuela since November 2024, received the long-awaited news of his release on Tuesday. Joseph, a four-tour Afghanistan War veteran from Hansville, Washington, had gone missing in November while seeking treatment for PTSD in Colombia.

Scott and Patti St. Clair, Joseph’s parents, expressed their overwhelming joy and gratitude upon hearing the news of his release. The details surrounding Joseph’s release were not disclosed, and the family chose not to provide further comments to the media.

The St. Clair family extended their heartfelt thanks to President Donald Trump and his administration for their efforts in securing Joseph’s release. Trump, along with Ambassador Ric Grenell, Adam Boehler, and Sebastian Gorka, the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, worked tirelessly to bring Joseph back home.

“We remain in prayer and solidarity with the families of those who are still being held,” the St. Clairs stated. “We will never stop loving and supporting them as they continue their fight to be reunited with their loved ones.”

In February, Joseph’s father received a call from the Colombian consulate informing him that Joseph was being held hostage by the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro. The St. Clair family went through a period of uncertainty and fear until the day of Joseph’s release.

With Joseph’s return, the number of Americans released from hostage situations in various countries during Trump’s presidency has reached 37. This includes individuals freed from Afghanistan, Belarus, Venezuela, Israel, Russia, and Kuwait.

Joseph St. Clair’s release marks the seventh American to be freed from Venezuela since January. Earlier in the year, six others were released following a meeting between Ambassador Grenell and President Maduro.

The St. Clair family is looking forward to reuniting with Joseph and is grateful for the support and prayers they have received throughout this challenging ordeal. Their faith and perseverance have finally led to Joseph’s safe return home.
