Trump administration hits NY AG Letitia James with allegations of mortgage fraud

New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing shocking allegations of mortgage fraud from the Trump administration. According to documents obtained by Fox News Channel’s The Ingraham Angle, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) sent a criminal referral to the Department of Justice, accusing James of falsifying records to receive favorable loan terms.

FHFA Director William Pulte alleged in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi that James misrepresented information on her mortgage applications. One example cited was a property in Virginia that James claimed as her principal residence, and a property in New York that she misrepresented as a four-unit structure instead of five. These actions could have allowed her to secure more favorable loan terms.

Fox News contributor and George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley pointed out the irony of James being accused of falsifying records, considering her past prosecutions of financial crimes. Turley highlighted the Supreme Court’s recent emphasis on knowing false statements, indicating that the allegations against James are serious.

The New York Post reported that documents showed James and her father listed as “husband and wife” on mortgage applications in 1983 and 2000. This raises concerns about the accuracy of James’ representations on her mortgage applications.

James has been a prominent figure in legal actions against the Trump administration, including a civil fraud suit against President Trump and the Trump Organization. Trump was ordered to pay a $454 million civil fraud judgment in James’ lawsuit, which is currently under appeal.

In 2025, James has led several legal actions against the Trump administration, including lawsuits related to funding cuts and access to government systems. Despite her aggressive pursuit of legal action against Trump, James now finds herself under scrutiny for alleged mortgage fraud.
