US Election 2024

Trump admin’s first oil and gas-lease sales nets nearly $40 million for U.S. coffers

The Interior Department made a significant announcement on Thursday regarding the revenue generated from oil and gas lease sales on public land in the first quarter of 2025. According to reports, the federal government brought in nearly $40 million from these lease sales, showcasing the success of President Donald Trump’s vision to boost American energy dominance.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum expressed his gratitude to those involved in energy production on federal lands, emphasizing the department’s commitment to supporting American Energy Dominance. By building on the pro-growth policies of the previous administration, the Interior Department aims to maximize the use of public lands to enhance national security, economic strength, and the well-being of the American people.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), under Burgum’s leadership, leased 34 land parcels for fossil fuel development since the beginning of the year, totaling 25,038 acres and bringing in over $39 million in revenue. These funds will be shared between the federal government and the states where the leases were sold, including Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Nevada.

The lease sales align with Trump’s Executive Order 14154, known as “Unleashing American Energy,” highlighting the administration’s focus on promoting energy production and independence. The Interior Department assured that the development of these parcels will adhere to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, a crucial environmental law championed by former Senator Scoop Jackson.

The leases have a lifespan of ten years, with the potential for extension based on oil and gas production. The federal government will also receive a 16.67% royalty from the revenue generated. This approach aims to balance energy development with environmental considerations and regulatory requirements.
