Trump and Musk relationship softens after public feud over tax legislation

President Trump and Elon Musk’s Relationship Takes a Softer Tone as Musk Wishes Trump Well
After a very public feud between President Trump and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk last week, the tone between the two seemed to soften on Monday. Trump expressed his well wishes for Musk, stating, “We had a great relationship and I wish him well — very well, actually.” This sentiment was shared in a clip posted by conservative influencer ALX, to which Musk responded with a heart emoji later in the evening.
Earlier in the day, Fox News Digital reported that the public spat between the two billionaires appeared to be losing steam after Musk seemingly issued support for Trump’s handling of the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. Trump had criticized Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Eric Garcetti for their handling of the riots, calling the instigators “troublemakers and insurrectionists.”
Musk also reposted Vice President JD Vance’s post on X about the riots, emphasizing the need for decisive leadership in such tumultuous times. Additionally, Musk made a self-deprecating joke on X, which many interpreted as a veiled reference to the fallout with Trump, stating, “It’s outrageous how much character assassination has been directed at me, especially by me!”
The tension between Trump and Musk began when Trump expressed disappointment in Musk’s vocal criticisms of a bill, claiming that Musk knew the contents of the bill and had no issue with it until EV incentives were cut. Musk refuted this claim on X, calling it false and prompting Trump to take to social media to criticize him.
In a series of posts, Trump accused Musk of going “crazy” after having his EV mandate removed and accused him of ingratitude for his help in winning the election. Musk, in turn, suggested that Trump should be impeached and replaced by Vice President Vance. The back-and-forth continued until Musk referenced Jeffrey Epstein in relation to Trump, a comment that many Republicans deemed as going “too far.” Musk later deleted the post.
Despite the heated exchange, Trump told Fox News that he isn’t interested in speaking with Musk, stating that Elon has “totally lost it.” He also dismissed concerns about Musk’s suggestion of forming a new political party, citing strong support from Republicans on Capitol Hill.
Overall, the relationship between President Trump and Elon Musk appears to be on the mend as both parties express well wishes and move on from their public feud. Only time will tell if this detente will last or if tensions will flare up once again.
