Trump and Putin discuss Ukraine attacks in hour-long phone call

Trump speaks with Putin following Ukrainian attack on Russian warplanes

President Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday that he had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding Russia’s response to a recent Ukrainian attack on Russian warplanes.

During the hour and 15-minute phone call, Trump mentioned that the discussion was not likely to lead to immediate peace. He shared details of the conversation on his Truth Social platform, stating, “We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes by Ukraine, as well as various other attacks from both sides. President Putin expressed strong intentions to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”

Over the weekend, Ukrainian forces executed “Operation Spider’s Web,” destroying 40 of Russia’s most powerful bomber jets and surveillance planes through coordinated drone strikes deep within Russian territory. The attack, which targeted five airfields, was personally overseen by President Volodymyr Zelensky and had been in the works for over 18 months.

The White House confirmed that the Trump administration was not informed in advance about the Ukrainian attack. Following this, Ukraine carried out a massive underwater blast targeting a bridge connecting Russia to Crimea. Additionally, Zelenskyy reported that Russia launched a “savage strike” on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, specifically targeting residential areas with rocket artillery.
