Trump ban on funding for trans procedures would be law under GOP senator’s bill: ‘Permanent fix’

Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., is taking a bold step by introducing new legislation that aims to make President Donald Trump’s executive order banning the use of federal funds for transgender surgical procedures permanent. The proposed bill, known as the End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act, will ensure that the ban remains in effect long after Trump leaves office.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Marshall, who is also an OB/GYN, emphasized the importance of enacting legislation to provide a permanent fix to the issue. He expressed concerns that without a legislative solution, a future president could easily overturn the executive order, highlighting the need for a more permanent solution.
The End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act seeks to prohibit the use of federal funding for gender transition procedures and prevent federal healthcare facilities, physicians, and providers from offering such services. The bill includes exceptions for individuals with medically verifiable sex-development disorders and allows for treatments related to complications arising from gender transition procedures.
Marshall’s legislation also aims to cut off federal funding for sex change surgeries for currently serving military personnel, veterans, and civilians covered by Medicare and Medicaid. He pointed out that a significant portion of transgender individuals rely on Medicaid, making it crucial to prevent federal taxpayer dollars from being used for gender transition procedures.
President Trump has been actively addressing transgender issues through various executive orders, including banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports and restricting gender transition treatments and surgeries for children. Marshall’s bill aligns with these efforts by calling for restrictions on taxpayer dollars for all gender transition surgeries, particularly emphasizing the vulnerability of children in making irreversible decisions.
Despite the partisan divide on the issue, recent polling suggests that even Democratic voters hold moderate views on transgender issues. Marshall acknowledged the reluctance of Democratic leaders to compromise on the issue but remains committed to advocating for the protection of vulnerable populations, especially children.
The End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act has garnered support from several Republican senators and will be co-sponsored by Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., in the House. The proposed legislation underscores the ongoing debate surrounding transgender rights and the use of federal funds for gender transition procedures, highlighting the need for a comprehensive and permanent solution to address these complex issues.
