Trump blasts Republicans blocking ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ procedural vote

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social early Thursday to address the delay in a House procedural vote on the “Big Beautiful Bill,” calling out Republicans who are still hesitant to support the legislation. The vote had hit a roadblock on Wednesday night, with five Republican members voting against it and eight others yet to cast their votes.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the potential benefits of the bill and urged Republicans to rally behind it. He highlighted the stark choice between “Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy” versus “Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy.” Trump expressed his frustration with GOP holdouts, questioning what they were waiting for and urging them to support the bill for the sake of the MAGA movement.
The procedural “rule vote” in question allows for debate before a final vote on the bill, which would then be sent to the president for approval. Trump made it clear that he believed the vote should be an “EASY YES” for Republicans and criticized those who were hesitant to support it as “RIDICULOUS.”
Several House Republicans had already voted against the procedural measure, including Representatives Andrew Clyde, Brian Fitzpatrick, Keith Self, Victoria Spartz, and Thomas Massie, who had initially voted in favor but later switched to a “nay” vote. Additionally, a group of Republican lawmakers, including Josh Brecheen, Tim Burchett, Eric Burlison, Michael Cloud, Andy Harris, Bob Onder, Scott Perry, and Chip Roy, had yet to cast their votes.
Despite the holdouts and critics, House Speaker Mike Johnson remained optimistic, emphasizing the importance of reaching a consensus and moving forward with the bill. He had called lawmakers back to Washington to capitalize on the momentum from the bill’s successful passage in the Senate and was determined to push ahead with the legislation.
The Republican leaders had kept the vote open for over four hours, hoping to secure a majority and pressure the remaining holdouts to support the bill. With GOP lawmakers only able to afford three defections, the stakes were high as they sought to meet Trump’s deadline for a holiday finish.
The challenges faced by Republicans in advancing the “Big Beautiful Bill” underscored the narrow margins and intense negotiations required to navigate the legislative process. Despite the hurdles, Johnson and his colleagues remained committed to delivering on Trump’s agenda and securing a victory for the American people.
