Trump claims Biden pardons are void, alleging they were signed via autopen

President Donald Trump made headlines recently by claiming that former President Joe Biden’s pardons of lawmakers who served on the House Select Committee to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and others, are “VOID.” Trump alleged that these pardons were signed via an autopen and that Biden had no knowledge of them.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “The ‘Pardons’ that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because of the fact that they were done by Autopen.” He went on to emphasize that Biden did not sign these pardons and was not aware of them, suggesting that those who orchestrated the pardons may have committed a crime.

Trump further elaborated, “Therefore, those on the Unselect Committee, who destroyed and deleted ALL evidence obtained during their two year Witch Hunt of me, and many other innocent people, should fully understand that they are subject to investigation at the highest level.” He insinuated that the individuals involved in securing the pardons without Biden’s knowledge could face legal consequences.

When asked about the validity of executive orders and pardons signed by Biden through an autopen while aboard Air Force One, Trump responded, “I think so. It’s not my decision. That would be up to a court.”

These claims by Trump come in the wake of the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project’s findings that an autopen was frequently used during Biden’s presidency. The Oversight Project revealed that all documents bearing Biden’s signature utilized the same autopen signature, except for a specific announcement regarding his withdrawal from a race.

On Jan. 20, the day he left office, Biden announced pardons for several individuals, including General Mark A. Milley, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, members of Congress and staff from the Select Committee, and U.S. Capitol and D.C. Metropolitan police officers who testified before the Committee. Biden justified these pardons by stating that these individuals had served the nation honorably and did not deserve unjustified legal actions.

As these controversies unfold, the question of the legitimacy of these pardons remains unresolved. Trump’s assertions and the Oversight Project’s findings have raised concerns about the use of autopen signatures in official documents during Biden’s administration. It remains to be seen how these developments will impact the ongoing political discourse and potential legal ramifications.
