Trump-endorsed Randy Fine wins Florida special election replacing Mike Waltz

Trump-endorsed Randy Fine Wins Florida Special Election
Republican state Sen. Randy Fine emerged victorious in one of two special elections in Florida on Tuesday night, securing a seat in the House of Representatives.
Fine, who received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, will be filling the vacancy left by former Congressman Mike Waltz in Florida’s 6th Congressional District. Waltz stepped down from his position to join Trump’s administration as National Security Advisor. Fine faced off against Democrat Josh Weil, a public school employee and political newcomer who raised significantly more funds than Fine during the campaign.
The 6th Congressional District in Florida spans from Daytona Beach to just south of Saint Augustine and extends inland to the outskirts of Ocala. Both Waltz and Trump carried the district in previous elections with comfortable margins.

Although previous elections in the district saw Waltz winning by significant margins, Fine’s victory in this special election was much closer. The race was viewed as a test of Trump’s early presidency and had implications for the balance of power in Congress.
There were concerns within the Republican party that losing either of the special elections in Florida could weaken their majority in the House of Representatives, which had already been reduced due to several members joining Trump’s cabinet.
Despite these worries, Fine’s win provided a boost to the Republican majority in the House. The victory added one more seat to their slim five-vote margin.

Despite being outspent by his opponent, Fine received support from outside Republican groups in the final week leading up to the election. This assistance, along with Trump’s endorsement, helped Fine secure the win.
