Trump expected to visit Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Mike Johnson says

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., announced on Tuesday that there are preliminary plans for President-elect Donald Trump to visit Capitol Hill on Wednesday. The Louisiana Republican shared this information during a morning press conference in response to a question from Fox News Digital about government funding discussions.

“I didn’t intend to break this news this morning,” Johnson stated when asked for more details. “But since I mentioned it, President Trump is scheduled to meet with President Biden at the White House. He expressed interest in visiting House Republicans.”

Johnson mentioned that House leaders are currently ironing out the specifics of Trump’s visit, which will occur before his meeting with Biden. “It will be a significant meeting and moment for all of us,” he added.

Additionally, Johnson revealed plans to travel to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida over the weekend to discuss government funding and other federal priorities.

The speaker highlighted his strong working relationship with Trump since he assumed the gavel in late October 2023, following the removal of his predecessor. Even before Trump’s election victory, Johnson would keep the former president informed about his policy and legislative decisions for the House.

Wednesday marks Trump’s first day back in the nation’s capital since winning the 2024 election.

The press conference was convened to celebrate Republican victories in the White House and Senate, showcasing the GOP’s confidence in retaining the House majority. While several races are still undecided, enough are leaning towards Republicans to suggest they will maintain control in Washington.
