Trump gets high marks with Americans for keeping promises: poll
President Donald Trump has kicked off his second term in the White House with a strong showing, garnering praise from Americans for his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises. According to a recent CBS/YouGov poll, a whopping 70% of Americans believe that Trump is staying true to his campaign pledges, while only 30% think otherwise.
In terms of overall approval, Trump stands at 53%, with 47% of respondents expressing disapproval. The president has been described by voters as tough, energetic, focused, and effective, with 69%, 63%, 60%, and 58% respectively using these positive descriptors.
On the policy front, many Americans are in favor of Trump’s actions so far. 59% approve of his efforts to deport illegal immigrants, while 64% support his decision to send troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. Additionally, 54% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict, although opinions are divided on the idea of the U.S. taking over Gaza post-war.
When it comes to Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a majority of Americans (51%) believe that the new agency should have some level of influence over government spending. However, opinions are split on the issue of tariffs, with 56% approving of tariffs on China, but only 44%, 40%, and 38% supporting tariffs on Mexico, Europe, and Canada respectively.
Despite these successes, Trump has faced criticism for his economic agenda, particularly in addressing inflation. 66% of respondents feel that the president has not devoted enough attention to lowering prices, while only 31% believe he has focused on the issue adequately.
The CBS/YouGov poll, conducted from Feb. 5-7 and surveying 2,175 U.S. adults, has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
