Trump hails Florida Dem’s decision to ditch party, join GOP: ‘THANK YOU HILLARY!’

President-elect Donald Trump expressed his congratulations and gratitude towards Florida state Rep. Hillary Cassel after she announced her decision to switch her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. In a statement, Cassel declared, “Today, I am announcing my decision to change my party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. I will be joining the Republican Conference of the Florida House of Representatives because I believe in their vision for a better, more prosperous Florida.”
President Trump welcomed Cassel’s move and encouraged more Democrats to follow suit. He posted on Truth Social, “Congratulations to Hillary Cassel for becoming the second State Representative from the Great State of Florida to switch her Party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, once more expanding the GOP Supermajority in the State House! I would further like to invite other Disillusioned Democrats to switch Parties, and join us on this noble quest to Save our Country and, Make America Great Again – GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE. THANK YOU HILLARY!”
Cassel’s decision came shortly after fellow Florida state Rep. Susan Valdés announced her switch from Democrat to Republican. During her 2022 campaign, Cassel described herself as a “proud Democrat,” “pro-choice champion,” and “faithful ally of the LGBTQ+ community.” However, she now believes that the Democratic Party no longer aligns with her values.
“As a mother, I want to help build a world where our children are judged on their character and their actions not on their labels,” Cassel stated. “As a proud Jewish woman, I have been increasingly troubled by the Democratic Party’s failure to unequivocally support Israel and its willingness to tolerate extreme progressive voices that justify or condone acts of terrorism. I’m constantly troubled by the inability of the current Democratic Party to relate to everyday Floridians. I can no longer remain in a party that doesn’t represent my values.”
Cassel acknowledged that while she may not always agree on every detail with every Republican, she values input, collaboration, and respect. She emphasized that the House Republican Conference encourages members to find common-sense solutions to real issues facing Floridians and welcomes different ideas and collaboration, which she sees as the cornerstone of effective government.
The move by Cassel and Valdés reflects a growing trend of Democrats switching to the Republican Party in Florida. Their decisions highlight the changing political landscape in the state and the shifting allegiances among lawmakers. President Trump’s support for Cassel’s move underscores the Republican Party’s efforts to broaden its base and attract disillusioned Democrats.
In conclusion, Cassel’s decision to join the Republican Party marks a significant shift in Florida’s political landscape. Her move, along with Valdés’, demonstrates a growing trend of Democrats switching sides in the state. As the GOP expands its Supermajority in the Florida House of Representatives, the party’s influence is set to increase, shaping the future of politics in the Sunshine State.
