Trump hails ‘great victory’ as Senate bill passes key vote despite Democrats

Senate Republicans celebrated a major victory over the weekend as President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” passed a key Senate vote. Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle reacted to the news, with Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., praising the bill as a necessary first step to fiscal sustainability and cleaning up the mess left by the Biden administration.

The 51-49 vote, which went along party lines, saw only Sens. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., and Rand Paul, R-Ky., voting against unlocking a marathon 20-hour debate on the bill. Trump lauded the vote as a “great victory” and commended Senate Republicans for their support.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., however, criticized the bill as “radical” and vowed to force the chamber to read the entire 940-page legislative text on the Senate floor. Despite Democratic opposition, Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., expressed pride in working with Trump on the bill to put the nation on a path to balance the budget.

The bill, which must pass the Senate before heading to the House for a vote, is expected to reach Trump’s desk by July 4. The former president expressed his gratitude to Sens. Johnson, Scott, Mike Lee, R-Ariz., and Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., for their support, emphasizing their commitment to growing the economy, reducing wasteful spending, and securing the border.

Overall, the Republican Party hailed the passage of the bill as a step towards making America great again. Trump’s messages of unity and progress resonated with his supporters, who are eager to see the bill’s impact on the nation’s economy and budget. With the bill’s approval in the Senate, the stage is set for further debates and discussions in the coming weeks.
