US Election 2024

Trump-hating NY pols vow to counter any potential payback

New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James have made it clear that they are prepared to fight back against any potential “revenge or retribution” that may come their way now that President-elect Trump will be returning to the White House. Despite their years of prosecuting and disparaging Trump, they offered congratulations to him during a press conference on Wednesday.

Hochul also commended Trump’s opponent, Vice President Harris, and running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for their hard-fought campaign. She acknowledged that the election results may not have been what many had hoped for but reassured her constituents that New York has overcome hard times before. She expressed confidence in her team and their ability to navigate the uncertainty of a new administration in Washington.

The governor emphasized that New York has been a leader in movements for women’s rights, environmental justice, LGBTQ rights, and the American labor movement. She announced the establishment of the Empire State Freedom Initiative, which will focus on protecting rights that may be threatened by the Trump administration, including reproductive rights, civil rights, immigration, gun safety, labor rights, LGBTQ rights, and environmental justice.

Hochul called on Trump to support New York’s efforts to obtain funding for critical infrastructure projects and economic development initiatives. She stated that while she is willing to work with Trump on beneficial projects, she will not hesitate to fight back against any attempts to harm New Yorkers or roll back their rights.

Attorney General Letitia James also congratulated Trump on his win but made it clear that she and other state officials will not compromise New York’s integrity or principles. She stated that her office has been preparing for several months to respond to the election results and protect the rights of New Yorkers.

James highlighted the legal actions her office took against Trump’s previous administration and assured the people of New York that they are prepared to stand tall in the face of injustice, revenge, or retribution. She emphasized that she and her team are guardians of the law and are ready to fight back against any attempts to cut or eliminate funding for the state.

In conclusion, Governor Hochul and Attorney General James are determined to defend the rights of New Yorkers and uphold the rule of law in the face of a new administration in Washington. They are committed to protecting the state from any potential threats and ensuring that New Yorkers continue to enjoy the rights they hold dear.
