Trump nemesis Rosie O’Donnell joins the growing list of celebrities leaving the United States

Comedian and former talk-show host Rosie O’Donnell has recently made headlines for joining the growing list of celebrities who have expressed their desire to leave the United States or have already made the move, citing the current political climate and the presidency as key factors in their decision. In a heartfelt video shared on TikTok, the 62-year-old revealed that she had relocated to Ireland on January 15th and was in the process of obtaining her Irish citizenship due to her Irish heritage.

Although O’Donnell did not explicitly mention President Trump by name, she alluded to the political turmoil in the country, stating, “It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know.” The “A League of Their Own” star went on to describe her experience in Ireland as “wonderful,” praising the kindness and warmth of the people in her new home. She also shared that her decision to move was motivated by a desire for a better future for herself and her 12-year-old child, Clay, who accompanied her along with their service dog, Kuma.

Expressing her longing for her other children, friends, and the familiarity of life in the U.S., O’Donnell emphasized that she would consider returning only when all citizens have equal rights and when the political climate improves. She acknowledged the challenges of uprooting her life but expressed gratitude for the supportive community she found in Ireland.

O’Donnell is not the only celebrity to have made such a move in recent times, with notable personalities like Ellen DeGeneres, Cher, Barbra Streisand, Sophie Turner, and James Cameron either leaving the country or discussing the possibility. The trend of celebrities seeking refuge in other countries has been fueled by the divisive political landscape in the U.S., with many Americans also contemplating a move north to Canada, as evidenced by a surge in Google searches for information on relocation following Trump’s election win.

The decision to relocate to Ireland sparked a light-hearted exchange between President Trump and Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin during a recent meeting, where Trump jokingly questioned the wisdom of allowing Rosie O’Donnell into the country. This banter added another chapter to the ongoing feud between O’Donnell and Trump, which dates back to 2006 when O’Donnell criticized Trump on her talk show, “The View.”

In her video, O’Donnell urged her fans to stand up, use their voices, and demand adherence to the constitution and democratic values in the face of political challenges. She acknowledged the negativity on social media platforms like TikTok and expressed her hope for a more positive and constructive discourse. Encouraging her followers to prioritize their mental well-being and resist getting caught up in chaos, O’Donnell concluded with a message of resilience and hope for a better future.
