Trump nominates Ed Martin to be US Attorney for Washington, DC

President Donald Trump made a significant announcement on Monday, revealing his nomination of interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Ed Martin, to lead the office. The announcement was made on Truth Social, where Trump commended Martin’s efforts in restoring law and order in the nation’s capital since taking on the interim role post-inauguration.
Martin, who has been serving in an interim capacity, has been instrumental in overseeing the dismissals of several Jan. 6 cases following Trump’s pardons and commutations for the defendants. In a motion filed by Martin, he sought to remove all remaining conditions imposed on these defendants, including restrictions barring them from entering Washington, D.C., or the U.S. Capitol building.
Furthermore, Martin has represented individuals in the Jan. 6 prosecutions and has participated in a pro-Trump rally called “Stop the Steal.” He has also expressed his commitment to pursuing legal action against anyone impeding the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) work to reduce unnecessary government spending.
In response to threats against DOGE staff, Martin reached out to Elon Musk, offering assistance in protecting the workers and their work. He emphasized the need to halt threats against public officials and ensure the safety of the nation’s capital from any form of dangerous conduct.
Martin, originally from New Jersey, holds degrees in English, Peace and Conflict Studies, and legal ethics. He completed his education at the College of the Holy Cross and St. Louis University.
The nomination of Ed Martin by President Trump marks a significant development in the efforts to uphold law and order in the District of Columbia. His track record and dedication to the role make him a fitting candidate to lead the office and continue the work of restoring safety and beauty to the nation’s capital.
