Trump nominates Florida sheriff Chad Chronister to lead the DEA

President-elect Trump has made another key nomination, this time tapping Florida sheriff Chad Chronister to lead the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). In a statement released on Saturday, Trump praised Chronister’s 32 years of service with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, highlighting his numerous commendations and awards for keeping the community safe.
Trump emphasized Chronister’s impressive credentials, noting his graduation from the FBI National Academy’s 260th Session and his roles as Co-Chairman of the Regional Domestic Security Task Force for Region IV Tampa Bay, Council Member of the Florida Attorney General’s Statewide Council on Human Trafficking, Chairman of the Criminal Justice Sub-Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Hillsborough County Public Safety Coordinating Council, and Vice-Chairman of the Hillsborough County Public Schools Citizen Oversight Committee.
The nomination of Chronister comes on the heels of Trump’s announcement of Kash Patel as his pick to replace Christopher Wray as FBI director. Trump expressed confidence that Chronister would work closely with Pam Bondi, his nominee for attorney general, to address border security issues and combat the flow of illegal drugs, particularly Fentanyl, across the Southern Border.
In response to his nomination, Chronister took to social media to express his gratitude, calling it the “honor of a lifetime” and expressing his deep humility at the opportunity to serve the nation. Trump also extended his congratulations to Chronister, his wife Nikki, and their two sons.
Chronister, who was appointed by former Florida Governor Rick Scott to lead the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2017 and has since been re-elected twice, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role of DEA administrator.
As Trump continues to shape his administration with strategic appointments, the nomination of Chad Chronister adds another key player to the roster of individuals tasked with upholding the nation’s security and addressing critical issues related to drug enforcement. With his background in law enforcement and dedication to public service, Chronister is poised to make a significant impact in his new role at the helm of the DEA.
