Trump picks Kelly Loeffler, Billy Long to head SBA and IRS, respectively

President-elect Trump made a significant announcement on Wednesday, revealing his nomination of former Missouri Rep. Billy Long to serve as commissioner of the IRS in his upcoming administration. Describing Long as an “extremely hard worker” who is highly respected in Congress and known for his experience as a tax adviser, Trump expressed confidence in his ability to lead the IRS effectively.

In a statement released on Truth Social, Trump highlighted Long’s impressive background, noting his 32 years of experience running his own businesses in real estate and as a renowned auctioneer. The president-elect emphasized Long’s motivation to serve in Congress, stating that he believed it was essential for his constituents to have a representative who had firsthand experience signing the front of a check.

Trump expressed his belief that both taxpayers and IRS employees would benefit from Long’s leadership, praising him as a “people person” who is respected by individuals on both sides of the political aisle. The president-elect extended his congratulations to Long on his nomination, signaling his confidence in Long’s ability to excel in this new role.

Following the announcement of Long’s nomination, Trump revealed another key appointment, naming former U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler to head the Small Business Administration (SBA). Trump underscored the importance of small businesses in driving the economy, stating that Loeffler’s experience in business and Washington would be instrumental in reducing red tape and fostering opportunities for small businesses to thrive.

Trump described Loeffler as a “tremendous fighter” and highlighted her successful career in financial services and technology. He credited Loeffler and her husband for their role in building a Fortune 500 company and for their contributions to his electoral success in Georgia.

In the first two years of Trump’s previous administration, the SBA was led by Linda McMahon, who later resigned in 2019 to take on the role of secretary of education. Trump’s nomination of Loeffler to head the SBA reflects his continued commitment to supporting small businesses and promoting economic growth.

As the administration prepares for the transition, these key appointments signal Trump’s focus on bringing in experienced and dedicated individuals to lead crucial government agencies. The nominations of Long and Loeffler underscore Trump’s dedication to driving economic prosperity and ensuring effective leadership within the IRS and the SBA.
