Trump, Prince William sit down for meeting in Paris after Notre Dame ceremony

President-elect Donald Trump and Prince William met in Paris at the British Embassy after attending the re-opening ceremonies of Notre Dame Cathedral. The two leaders shook hands at the ceremony and then sat down for a meeting to discuss the “special relationship” between the U.K. and the U.S.

During the ceremony at Notre Dame, Prince William also met with world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. First Lady Jill Biden represented the United States at the event in place of President Biden and was seen speaking with Prince William.

This meeting between Trump and Prince William was their first since Trump won the election, with their last meeting taking place during Trump’s first term in 2019 when he made a state visit to the U.K. Prince William also met with President Biden in 2022 during his Earthshot Prize visit.

In 2019, Trump had a lengthy discussion with Prince Charles about climate change during his state visit, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a good climate for future generations. Prince Charles also reached out to Trump last summer after an assassination attempt.

Notre Dame Cathedral has been under renovation since a devastating fire in 2019, and the re-opening ceremony was a significant event. The meeting between Trump and Prince William at the British Embassy highlighted the strong ties between the U.K. and the U.S. as they discussed various issues of mutual interest.
