Trump seizes on drone controversy to mock Chris Christie
President-elect Trump took to Truth Social and X on Saturday to poke fun at former ally turned foe, Chris Christie, in the midst of a mysterious drone controversy in New Jersey. The president-elect shared a meme depicting Christie eating McDonald’s while drones delivered even more meals to him, making a jab at his weight.
Christie, who endorsed Trump in 2016 but was later removed as head of his transition team, had a short-lived presidential campaign for the 2024 election last year. During his campaign, he referred to Trump as a “coward” and a “puppet of Putin,” before dropping out in January.
Trump and Christie’s falling-out has been marked by weight-related jabs from the president-elect. Last year, Trump jokingly told a supporter not to call Christie a “fat pig.” The relationship between the two has been strained since Christie’s departure from Trump’s inner circle.
The drone sightings in New Jersey have been a cause of concern for residents since mid-November, with similar reports coming from other parts of the country, including military installations. Lawmakers have been demanding answers regarding the mysterious drones, but New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and law enforcement have assured the public that there is no immediate threat to public safety.
Trump, however, took a more aggressive stance on the issue, calling for the drones to be shot down if their presence cannot be explained. He expressed skepticism about the government’s lack of knowledge regarding the drone sightings and urged for transparency on the matter.
