US Election 2024

Trump selects South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem for Homeland Security secretary

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem for the position of Homeland Security secretary. Noem, who has been serving as the governor of South Dakota since 2019, was previously considered as a potential running mate for Trump earlier in the year.

If selected, Noem would oversee key agencies such as US Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, US Secret Service, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency within the Department of Homeland Security. This role would involve working closely with Tom Homan, who was recently appointed as Trump’s “border czar,” and Stephen Miller, who was named as the White House deputy of staff for policy.

In addition to the potential appointment of Noem, Trump is also expected to name Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., as his secretary of state. These appointments are part of the ongoing transition process as Trump prepares to take office.

While an official announcement has not yet been made by Trump or Noem, the speculation surrounding her possible selection has generated significant interest. Noem’s background as a governor and her previous consideration for a prominent role within the Trump administration make her a compelling candidate for the position of Homeland Security secretary.

As the transition continues, the public will be eagerly awaiting updates on Trump’s cabinet appointments and policy priorities. Stay tuned for more information on this developing story.
