Trump strikes back with retaliatory measures against Colombia for rejecting deportation flights

President Donald Trump has taken a strong stance against Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s decision to refuse U.S. deportation flights to land in Colombia. In a series of tweets, Trump expressed his frustration with Petro’s actions, calling him out for jeopardizing national security and public safety.
“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people,” Trump wrote on social media.
In response to Petro’s decision, Trump announced several retaliatory measures aimed at pressuring the Colombian government to reverse its stance. These measures include emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States, with plans to raise it to 50% in a week. Additionally, Trump has imposed a travel ban and immediate visa revocations on Colombian government officials, allies, and supporters, as well as visa sanctions on party members, family members, and supporters of the Colombian government.
Furthermore, Trump has ordered enhanced Customs and Border Protection inspections of all Colombian nationals and cargo on national security grounds. He also plans to fully impose IEEPA Treasury, banking, and financial sanctions on the Colombian government.
“These measures are just the beginning. We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!” Trump declared.
