Trump supporters celebrate Inauguration Day in DC streets: ‘Today is a day of freedom’

Spirits were high in the streets of Washington, D.C., this Monday as Americans from across the country converged on the nation’s capital to celebrate the second inauguration of President Donald Trump. Despite frigid temperatures and a biting wind chill, Trump supporters expressed optimism and hope for the future of America under the new administration.
A group of women from South Georgia, sporting huge star-spangled hats and “Make America Great Again” scarves, stood by the Capitol building, exclaiming, “It’s a happy day.” Tanya Garrett, one of the women, emphasized, “It’s amazing to have freedom again,” while Angela Anderson added, “Today is a day of freedom.” The women believed that the Trump administration would bring back respect for America on the global stage and ensure prosperity and safety within the nation.
Many Trump supporters shared the sentiment that the new president must act swiftly to undo the damage caused during the Biden administration. Securing the border, restoring the economy and American energy, and projecting strength against the nation’s enemies were seen as crucial steps for the new administration. Rachel Quy, a Vietnamese American from Atlanta, expressed her anti-communist views, hoping that Trump would weaken communist threats to make America stronger.
In a pub near the Capitol, the celebrations commenced early in the morning as Trump supporters gathered to watch the president emerge from St. John’s Episcopal Church after morning services. Jeff, a Trump fan from Alaska, anticipated significant changes, especially in immigration and business. Another supporter named Will echoed the excitement, noting the unique energy surrounding Trump’s presidency.
Outside, supporters lined Pennsylvania Avenue, eagerly awaiting Trump’s motorcade. Philip Swinson, a construction business owner from Southern California, highlighted the economic success under Trump’s previous term and expressed excitement for another four years. His father and business partner, Brad Swinson, criticized the Biden administration, emphasizing the importance of freedom, the Constitution, and free enterprise.
Some supporters mentioned a noticeable shift in their communities, with more people openly supporting Trump and his agenda. Levi, a young man from Wisconsin, noted a change in the mindset of former liberal friends, while Deanna from Illinois expressed relief at having a strong leader in charge after what she described as embarrassing years under the previous administration.
As Trump supporters celebrated and expressed hope for the future, the inauguration marked a new chapter for America under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
