Trump taps Jamieson Greer for US trade representative, announces more picks

President-elect Trump has made several key appointments as his team prepares to transition to the White House next year. Among his recent announcements, Trump named Jamieson Greer as his pick for the next U.S. trade representative. Greer, who previously served as chief of staff to the trade representative during Trump’s first term, Robert Lighthizer, played a crucial role in implementing tariffs on China and other nations. Greer’s nomination will now have to be confirmed by the Senate.

In addition to Greer, Trump also selected Vince Haley, a former speechwriter during his campaign, to lead the Domestic Policy Council, and Kevin A. Hassett to head the White House National Economic Council. Trump expressed his confidence in Haley, stating, “Vince will lead my Domestic Policy Agenda as Director of the Domestic Policy Council. He has been instrumental in conveying our message to the public and has a wealth of experience working alongside respected figures such as Newt Gingrich.”

Hassett, who played a key role in designing and passing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, will now focus on helping American families recover from the inflation caused by the Biden administration. Trump emphasized the importance of renewing and improving tax cuts and ensuring fair trade with countries that have taken advantage of the United States in the past.

Businessman John Phelan was also appointed by Trump to serve as the next secretary of the Navy. Trump praised Phelan’s leadership skills and commitment to advancing his “America First” vision, stating, “John will be a tremendous force for our Naval Servicemembers and will prioritize the business of the U.S. Navy above all else.”
